Notice that Ft. Sam Houston took up a substantial part of San Antonio. We were and are very much a growing city, but we were and are very much also a collection of neighborhoods.
Oranization Advice
I have written a step by step program to help you find the right apartment.
1. Marshal your assets. (This is getting what you need together.):
A. Secure yourself a computer and internet connection.
B. Get an email address for the search (this narrows what emails you get).
C. Get a notebook or shirt cardboard or something tangible you can write on and take with you in your car or a car.
D. Identify a Realtor or apartment locator to work with you.
2. Start searching to identify a master list. (This is making a list and then checking it twice.):
A. Identify your needs, including importantly the general area where you want to live.
B. Start looking online.
C. Write down every property you think you are interested in on your cardboard.
D. Go through this process again by narrowing or enlarging the area or the amenities or policies you want or need.
3. Refine your list. (This is where the professional help can really help.):
A. Start asking questions. Why or why not is this the place for me?
B. Visit some properties.
C. Remove unqualified properties in order and develop a short list. Cross off and add properties to your cardboard.
D. Repeat A through C until your have a good short list.
4. Make the decision and apply. (There is where you get the satisfaction of making a good decision.)
A. Take a day or two to make up your decision after completing your short list.
B. Go ahead and make your application and deposit.
C. Lastly, be sure and cooperate with questions the apartment management may have for you in evaluating your application.

Do not panic even if you do not have much time. If we are intelligent about your needs, we can find a good choice. We can even do it in as little time as half a day. I have done it many times. Be sure and make an appointment with me. I have lots of time, but sometimes I am helping someone else, so give me a day or two heads up. (Longer notice is deeply appreciated.)
There are some pitfalls in the apartment market be sure and get connected with a Realtor or good apartment locator, even if you do not use me. With hundreds of properties and at least more than 100 different management companies, you need a guide who is on your side. Do you know the name of the management company in San Antonio that manages more than 30 properties that is well known for not making repairs? I hope you will consider hiring me to represent you so that I may share this information with you. If you want to start your search on your own with the internet, the Search Engine for Apartments on this website is very powerful. It covers the San Antonio and Austin markets and all places in between and around. It is part of a larger system, billed as an “MLS” system for apartments. I subscribe to this system and give you use. You can search for an individual apartment name to find its current rates, specials, and availability. Just enter the name in the “Property Name” blank and then click on “Show Results.” Be sure San Antonio or, if you want, Austin shows in the city window. You can search for apartments in either market. New Braunfels is part of San Antonio for this system and San Marcos is part of Austin. After clicking on show results you will then get a page with the results. If you asked for an apartment by name, there will be only one in the list and you will need to click on the name to get to the information about that property. On the other hand, you might also have asked for one bedroom, under $500 in the Medical Center by checking off these options on the first search page. You will then see a list of properties. You may click on the name of any one or more of these properties to get more information, including how to contact them. Prices and availability are in the floor plan sub section of the property information section of the search engine. You can check an option to email yourself information about the properties you have selected or viewed. You will also have access to information about what other people think of the property. Please call me with questions of any kind in using this system. It is a great way to find out about rates in your area, as well as, find a new apartment home. Please do not hesitate to call for help. In addition to the Search Engine, I have made individual pages for many properties. These pages are somewhat different than the results of the Search Engine. They include my thoughts about the property. Be sure and check out this information as well. You can access them from my list of preferred apartments by area on the first page or by going to the alphabetical list.
A tour of properties, even if you live in San Antonio, is a good idea. It will not take long, if you use me. I will know a lot of what will fit you from your reaction to the properties we see. Looking for apartments is a little like buying dresses for ladies or trying on boots for guys. You know which one is the right one for you by trying them on. You know the right one when you have found it by trying it on. You cannot do this as well by pictures alone.
If you do not have time to come to San Antonio before your move, I can take digital pictures of your specific new apartment so you have a better idea of the property. This can be an effective way of saving an extra trip. If you do come to San Antonio, I can pick you up at your temporary quarters, motel, guest suite, or the airport and drive you to different complexes for your review. We can get the job done in a day or less, promise. If you want to take more time, that is fine with me as well.
